Bridge the Gap / Morse PTO $5,100 (Membership) + $2,620 (Best Buy) = $7720 Nominated by: Jennifer Bell Website: Link The Bridge the Gap outreach began as a way to provide weekend “bridge food” for families at risk of food insecurity at Morse Elementary School. Since its inception, Bridge the Gap has been providing food for over 100 students per week at Morse Elementary School. Two years ago, Morse Elementary partnered with Baker Middle School to include middle school students in the Bridge the Gap initiative. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bridge the Gap was sending home weekly bags of food with 100 Morse students and 25 bags went home weekly with Baker students. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of schools, the Bridge the Gap team mobilized to provide a community-based drive-through food pantry which now feeds members of the entire Troy School District and Troy community. The COVID Bridge the Gap initiative now feeds over 300 families per week. In addition to feeding families, the COVID-19 Bridge the Gap pantry provides personal products such as soap, diapers, feminine products and other supportive supplies for families and children.
